Capt. John Blodgett, son of Lieut. Daniel and Deborah Ellsworth, was born at Stafford, Conn. on Aug. 16, 1733. He m. on Dec. 4, 1755 at Stafford, Irene Robinson, dau. of Benjamin Robinson and Jerusha Bingham of Windham, Conn. John's younger brother Daniel was the husband of his wife Irene's younger sister, Lydia Robinson. At least twelve children were born of record at Stafford before the family finally settled at Claremont, NH. However, the family, or at least some of the children, stopped on the way for brief residences at Amherst, Mass.
Gravestone Inscription: Died Capt. John Blodget April 10, 1813 in the 80th year of his age. The memory of the just is blessed.
On the day John died she was 79 years old, and Aetatis (i.e., Æ, "Aged," in the XX year of his Age) 80.

In the Revolutionary War, John served in Capt. John Sherman's company, Col. Gideon Burt's regiment. June 16, 1782, served four days against insurgents at Springfield, and Northampton, Mass. (vol. 2, p. 196.)
At least twelve children were born of record in Stafford before the family finally settled in Claremont, NH. However, the family, or at least some of the children, stopped on the way for brief residences in Amherst, Mass.:
• i. Huldah Blodgett, b. Sept. 15, 1756; m. Sgt. (later called Capt.) Thomas Warner at the 1st Congregational Chh. of Stafford, Conn. Oct. 12, 1778. Their daughter Boadicia Warner was the wife of Levi Alden of Claremont, NH, a descendant of Hon. John Alden of the Mayflower and Plymouth Colony.
• ii. Elizabeth Blodgett, b. May 29, 1758; no further record known.
• iii. Irene Blodgett, b. Jan. 31, 1760; m. Thomas Buell at Stafford, Conn. Jan. 27, 1780.
• iv. John Blodgett, Jr., b. Feb. 3, 1762; m. Lois Dickinson at Amherst, Mass. Apr. 5, 1788; they briefly resided in Claremont, NH before settling in Randolph, VT.
• v. Darius Blodgett, b. Nov. 27, 1763; d. in infancy Mar. 5, 1764.
• vi. Jesse Blodgett, b. Feb. 11, 1765; no further record known.
• vii. Luke Blodgett, b. Feb. 20, 1768; m. 1) Martha Dickinson in Amherst, Mass. Apr. 8, 1789, who died in Claremont, NH in 1792; m. 2) Sarah Bangs in Claremont, NH on Jan. 30, 1794. Both died in Claremont in the 1850s.
• viii. Samuel Blodgett, b. Dec. 29, 1770; m. Charity Alden at Claremont. NH where they both died in 1853 and 1862, respectively.
• ix. Nathan Blodgett, b. June 23, 1773; no further record known.
• x. Rosamond Blodgett, possibly the dau. b. at Stafford, Conn. Mar. 3, 1775; m. Walter Ainsworth in Claremont, NH Apr. 20, 1795.
Two additional children were born of record int Stafford: twins Martha and Mary in 1768 who apparently died young. However, the printed vital records and several genealogies of this Blodgett family do not match.
In 1792 at Claremont, NH Capt. John Blodgett recorded his cattle mark. He d. at Claremont on Apr. 10, 1813, Æ. 80. His widow died two days later on Apr. 12, 1813, also Æ. 80.
