In memory of Captain John Jerrison a native of New England who died 29 Aug 1850 aged 74 yrs, 6 mos, 11 days. In early life he was a sergeant of General Wayne's Army of the Northwest, afterwards settled at Fort Hawkins near the present town of Macon in the state of Georgia, where he was long and favorably known as a merchant, contractor and postmaster. During the War of 1812, he was a staff officer in the U.S. Army with the rank of Captain and after the conclusion of peace removed to Alabama, then a territory. He finally settled at Pensacola, Fl where he was repeatedly elected mayor and at the time of his decease was clerk of the Nary Yard there. For more than half a century he was connected with the public service in various capactities, in all of which he was noted for zeal and integrity in the discharge of his duties. This marker erected as a token of filial affection by his bereaved and surviving children.
