He left Norway in 1792, 14 years old, on one of Mr. Bloms (from Porsgrunn) ships- ran away from the ship in London and hid in a cellar for 3 days. Emigrated to US in 1801 and after a short stay in New York he moved to Fairhaven, MA. Returned to Norway for a visit in 1807. His father would have wished him to be a school master and would have sent him to Copenhagen for preparation. Became captain in 1804 and stopped in 1824. He visited his family in Norway in 1807 during the Napoleon war.
