About Captain Joshua Walker, Jr
Soldier in the Revolution
Capt. Joshua Walker Jr was born November 24, 1750 in Woburn, MA, the son of Capt. Joshua Walker Sr. and Mary (Proctor) Walker. In the Revolution Capt. Joshua Sr. commanded a company of Minutemen that joined the fight at Concord North Bridge, forcing the British retreat to Boston on April 19, 1775, he later served throughout the war. Capt Joshua Jr. was the eldest of five brothers that served during the Revolution. Joshua Walker Jr married, in 1775, Mary Whitmore the daughter of William Whitmore and Mary (Brooks) Whitmore. They moved to Rindge, NH, about 1780. He was a selectman in 1789 and was frequently chosen for other committees. He was a farmer and inn keeper. They resided on the farm later of Capt. Asa Brewer then Zachariah F. Whitney. This farm was located on what is now the campus of Franklin Pierce University. Joshua and Mary had six children. He died January 4, 1825, aged 75 years.
