About Captain Nathan Briggs
He began his life as a sailor at age 15 working as a cook on a sloop. He made his first voyage across the ocean as master of the schooner Betsy and Jane bound for Marseilles. By age 26, he was a ship master.
Noted sea captain, Nathan died when struck by lightning durng a storm. He was not at sea but rather standing in the doorway of his home.
