About Captain Samuel Lee, III
A Patriot of the American Revolution for CONNECTICUT with the rank of LIEUTENANT. DAR Ancestor #: A068716
SAMUEL·, b. Oct. 1,1742; d. May 31, 1810. He was a man of much prominence in the town, representiug it several times in the legislature. During the Revolutionary war he was most zealous in his patriotism, 3.nd served on several important town committees. In 1778, he was appointed lieutenant in the 7th Connecticnt regiment. In 1780, he enlisted a company of coast guards in Guilford and was on duty with them for 165 d3.Ys. His course of action against the Tories was a determinecl one (see Steiner's History of Guilford, p. 443). His wife was a remarkable woman, of great force of character. She was Agnes Dickinson (b. Mar. 21, 1145 i d. July 2, 1830), dau. of Azralah and Hepzibah of Haddam. She mar. Capt. Lee on Nov. 7, 1764. Their children were: 1. Rebecca, b. Mar. 17, 1766 i d. Dec. 6, 1850 j m. Timothy Seward of Guilford Dec. 3, 1783 (see Seward Genealogy in N. E. Rist. Gen. HI~GI5TEUfor July, 18(8). Among their grand-children was Rachel StOlle Seward, who m. Ralph D. Smyth. 2. Lucy, b. July 8, 1770; m. Joel Griswold (d. July 10, 1835) of Gullford in 1790, and d. Mar. 24, 1854. 3. Ruth, b. Aug. 13, 1778; m. Abner Benton (d. Mar. 2, 1804) of Guilford in 1800, and d. Mar. 1, 1854.
