William Walton, son of Thomas Walton and Sarah Rountree Walton, was born ca 1735-1736 in probably Chowan County, North Carolina and is listed on a muster roll of the Chowan Regiment of Militia under the command of the Honorable Colonel Francis Corbin (1760's) Captain William Walton and Lieutenant Richard Walton company consisted of one Ensign, three Sargeants, four Corporals, one Drummer and 63 privates.

William Walton served as Justice of the Peace during the American Revolution as service to his country. (Source: State Records of North Carolina, Volume XXIII, PG 995, included in set of 30 volumes Walter Clark Editor, published Goldsboro, NC; Nash, 1866-1907.

William Walton of Wake County, North Carolina married Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Samuel Smith and Edith Whitfield of Johnston County, North Carolina as stated in the biography of Samuel Smith in the Johnston County North Carolina Heritage Book.

On 15 September 1802 a Richard King bought from John Paris, Jr. land on both sides of Malow's Creek and the east side of Mill Branch, being part of a tract of land granted from the State to William Walton, 29 March 1780. Neighbors year of 1778/79 Joseph Britt, Richard Swanson with 400 acres & Willis Bearfield both sides of Juniper Branch Creek, William Walton had 200 acres on Little Creek, Middle Creek on both sides of Guffies Swamp.

William Walton is listed as head of household in the 1790 Wake County, North Carolina Census Morgan's District. There were three males over the age of sixteen, two males under the age of sixteen, five free white females, and fourteen slaves. There are Pope, Hill, Utley, and Myatt families all in the same area but no other Walton families.
