Biography

Sampson married Rebecca about 1666. They had at Boston:

Mary,[1] b. August 28, 1667[2]
William, b. March 3, 1669/70,[3] d. June 15, 1691[4]
John,[1] b. January 2, 1672[5]
Rebecca,[1] b. May 28, 1677[6]
Ann,[1] b. about 1680
Elizabeth,[1] b. Februray 1, 1682/,3[7] d. July 5, 1695[8]
Sampson,[1] b. June 20, 1685[9]
Robert, b. May 5, 1688,[10] d. bef. 1693
Sampson Waters of Suffolk, mariner, wrote his will August 12, 1693. His original will had suffered water damage by the time of filming.[11]

Sampson died at Boston August 14, 1693,[12] aged 53, and is buried at Copp's Hill Burying Ground in Boston.[13]

In his will he mentions his wife Rebecca, sons John and Sampson, and daughters Mary, Rebecca, Ann, and Elizabeth, grandchildren Sampson and John Jervais. He also mentions his land in "Somerset County in Nantecoke River in Virginia [sic]". He makes his wife Rebecca and son John executors, and makes his "Honoured Father in Law William Ireland of Rumney Marsh and my deare and loving Friend Thomas Baker of Boston" overseers of his will.[1] Administration was granted October 13, 1693.[14] His inventory was valued at £455-6-00.[15]

On September 13, 1714, John Jarvis and Mary his wife, and Obadiah Wakefield and Rebecca his wife, Mary and Rebecca daughters of Sampson, divided Sampson's estate at Boston.[16][17]

Research

The below notes claim that Sampson's wife was a Foxcraft/Foxcroft. However in his will he mentions his "Father in Law William Ireland" of Rumney Marsh, suggesting his wife was an Ireland.

Sampson was attached as a son of Lawrence Waters, however there is no mention of Sampson in Lawrence's profile. Sampson is removed until someone can provide a source.

Sampson Waters married Rebecca Foxcraft/Foxcroft of Somerset County, Maryland, near Nanticoke, Virginia. She inherited property from her father Isaac Foxcroft which was managed by James Dashiell. The "Dashiell Family Records" indicate Sampson Waters' daughter Mary married this James Dashiell, but Sampson's will indicates the daughter Mary was married to a John Jarvis. (See the Wakefield Memorial.) Perhaps there was another Waters daughter. Sampson's daughter Ann, wife of John Wakefield, received land in Somerset county on Nanticoke river, Va. 20 Jun 1707.

A previous version of this profile had his birth as in 1646 at "Lancaster, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay" without source, and his death in 15 Sep 167. These dates are wrong, and do not align with the sources mentioned
