About Carl Hope

Funeral services for Carl Hope were held on April 27 at the Valley Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jacob Enderson officiating. Kenneth Flom sang two vocal selections, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Taenk Nar En Gang," accompanied by Mrs. Victor Radtke, the organist. LeRoy Gunhus, Dennis Gunhus, David Aase, Orlano Benson, Halvor Lillesve, and Norman Hope served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Valley Grove Cemetery. Carl Hope passed away at his home in Wheeling Township on April 24,.

The son of Haldor and Berit Lein Hope, he was born in Wheeling Township, Rice County, on Jan. 1, 1892. He lived his entire life in the Valley Grove Community except for one year when he attended Luther College in Iowa. He was held various church offices and at the time of his death was vice president of the Valley Grove congregation. He also served on the Wheeling Town Board for several years.

He is survived by his widow, Milla; one daughter, Mrs. E. I. Gunhus (Carol) of Kenyon; seven sons, Harding of Minneapolis, Glenn, Russell, Philip, Donald and Allan of Nerstrand and James of Kenyon; also 18 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Esther Aase of Northfield. His parents, three sisters and five brothers preceded him in death, also one grandson, Gordon Gunhus, who was killed in action in Vietnam.
