Carl Ivan Danielsson, as head of the Swedish mission to Budapest, Hungary, was responsible for the rescue and protection of tens of thousands of Hungarian Jews. For his actions, he was awarded the Righteous Among the Nations medal by Israel.

Carl Ivan Danielsson , born 13 August 1880 , died 21 July 1963 , was a Swedish diplomat .

Biography
Danielsson entered diplomatic service in 1903, was chargé d'affaires in Warsaw 1919-20, envoy in Madrid and Lisbon 1921-24 and also accredited in Vienna and Budapest 1922-24. Between 1925 and 1937 he was again minister in Madrid and Lisbon. 1937–1942 he was envoy in Cairo.

Ivan Danielsson was during World War II (1942-45) envoy and head of the Swedish delegation in Budapest until just before the liberation of the city by the Red Army. He was ultimately responsible for the legation's efforts under Valdemar Langlet, Per Anger, Raoul Wallenberg and Lars G:son Berg, among others, to save Jewish lives from persecution and killing by German SS and Hungarian Arrow Crossers . For this he was awarded posthumously in 1982 Righteous Among the Nations .
