About Carl Johan Ohlsson

Carl J. Ohlsson Dies at 77;
Churchman and Republican

Carl J. Ohlsson, 77, of Lockport, died February 22, 1969 at the Lock Haven Hospital which he entered on January 26 for surgery.
He was the husband of Irene Bittner Ohlsson, both active in Republican circles in Lock Haven. His wife, a brother, Dewey, and a sister, Mrs. George Swyers, both of Renovo, are his only immediate survivors.
Mr. Ohlsson was born at Little Valley, Cattaragus County, N.Y., son of Olaf Ohlsson, a sawmill superintendent, who later came to Cross Fork in Potter County, where Carl attended school. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a young man, and enlisted in the Air Force of World War I, serving with the 19th Co., Third Air Service, in France, where he suffered a skull fracture in action, a war injury that caused him much hospitalization in later years. Following the war he attended Williamsport Commercial College where he graduated in 1921, the year he and Mrs. Ohlsson were married on June 18. He worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad after graduation, then moved to Lock Haven and was employed by the R. K. Griffin Co. for a number of years, until retiring due to disability. Mr. Ohlsson had lived in the same residence in Lockport since 1923. He was active as a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he served on the official board, was a member of the Men's Bible Class, and chief usher for many years. He was a charter member of the Dunnstown Fire Co., a life member of the Renovo Elks lodge, a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and the Veterans of World War I. His political activity had included serving on the Woodward Township election board more than 20 years. Due to his illness, he and Mrs. Ohlsson missed heir first Republican Lincoln Day dinner in many years.
Services for Carl J. Ohlsson were held at the Heft Funeral Home, Lock Haven, with the Reverend J. Carl Williams officiating.
Interment was in Dunnstown Cemetery, with military rites at the grave.
