About Carl Reinhold Östedt
Östedt, Carl Reinhold
- * c. 1714.
- oo 1740-07-03.
- [ ] 1748-03-13.
Born in Livonia c. 1714. In 1730, at 16 years of age, he was a glover apprentice (Swedish: handskmakarlärling) with Johan Ditzinger in Stockholm, Sweden and later as a journeyman (Swedish: gesäll) in 1740 with Fredrik Linzell. C.R.Ö. came to Uppsala 1741, now a master in his profession. He accidentally shot himself while cleaning a pistol and was unable to perform his craft satisfactory during his final years because of the pain inflicted by the cleaning scraper (Swedish: kratsmoder) that was still stuck in his back. Backman (1995) also mentions that it's in all likelyhood the very same Carl, being on a trip to Fastingsmarknaden in Kristinehamn, who was the "the stranger" that died and was also buried there in 1748-03-13.
