About Carlo Baudizzone

FATAL ACCIDENT NO. 18 - Feb. 1, 1908 - Charles Bondezone, Red Jacket Shaft, Calumet & Hecla Mine.
Charles Bondezone died upon this date, from injuries received at the Red Jacket Shaft, on the 12th day of Dec., 1907. An inquest was impaneled over his remains and the following testimonies taken:

Dr. A.A. Davis: “I am a practicing physician and Surgeon for the Calumet & Hecla Mining Co. The deceased was brought to the hospital, injured, on Dec. 12, 1907. I attended his injuries. There was a compound fracture of the skull over the right parietal region, there was an operation performed that evening to find the fragments of bone which were driven into the brain leaving the brain exposed. I would say that the direct cause of his death was meningitis due to infection of the exposed brain. He died at noon, Feb. 1, 1908."

Anton Severinsky testified: “I work in the Red Jacket shaft for the C.&H. Mining Co. I was with the deceased when he got hurt on Dec. 12, 1907. We were working at the 64th level south, with the timbermen, putting in a battery. Charlie and myself were both on the stage, and a piece of hanging came down and struck the plank Charlie was standing on and broke it. He fell down the mill and the plank fell on the back of his head. He fell about 10 feet. I saw the piece of hanging rock before it fell, it looked solid at the bottom, we thought it was all right."

Verdict: "We, the jury, upon our oaths, do say, that the said Charles Baudezone came to his death, by an injury received on the 12th day of December, 1907, at the 64th level south side, Red Jacket shaft of the Calumet & Hecla Mine, which eventually was the cause of his death on the 1st day of February, 1908."
