Carlton James Blair, son of Michael Blair and Jane McNutt, was born 7 October 1826 at Atlas, Pike County, Illinois. He died 30 June 1884 at Graham County, Arizona, and is buried at Graham Cemetery, Plot: Block 9, Plot *, Number 38, Graham, Graham County, Arizona, United States. He married Mary "Polly" Thorpe Allen Blair (1832 - 1924), daughter of James Dickerson Allen (1804 - 1852) and Sarah Ann Hardy Allen (1804 - 1872), on 19 December 1858 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah Territory.
