About Lydia Clarissa Blair Salisbury

Lydia Clarissa Blair was born in Joseph, Sevier, Utah, in 1873 to Carlton and Mary Blair. They were listed in the 1880 census there as: Carlton, 53, Mary, 47, William, 18, Sarah, 15, Joseph, 11, Georgiana, 8, Lydia, 7, and George, 3. Lydia's father, Carlton, was listed as a farm laborer, as was his son, William. Lydia's mother, Mary, was listed as having a disability, Erinsepilis, but I don't know what that would have been.

In 1900, Lydia, 26, and her husband, William Henry Salisbury, 36, were living with Lydia's 67-year old widowed mother in Graham County, Arizona, and William was working as a miner. Both William and Lydia were born in Utah and Lydia's mother was born in Ohio and her parents in New Jersey.

In 1910 Lydia, 37, and her husband, William Henry Salisbury, 47, were still living in Graham, Arizona, and living with them were their children, Blanche J., 7, Frank B., 5, and George A., 3, and Lydia's 77 year old widowed mother, Mary T. Blair, as well as a hired man named Dauph Orazano, 21. William was working as a farmer, but sadly, he passed away just three years later on October 22, 1913, and was buried in Safford, Arizona. Three months before her husband's death, Lydia gave birth to twin sons, James and David.

By 1920 Lydia, a 43-year old widow, was living in Los Angeles with her children, Blanche, 17, George, 13, James, 6, and David, 6, and Lydia was working as the proprietor of a boarding house. Their home was located at 829 Maple Street. Perhaps her son Frank B., had passed away, since he would have only been 15 years old in 1920.

In 1930, Lydia C., 55, was living still living in Los Angeles with her sons, James and David P., both 16 years old, in a home they owned valued at $7,000 located at 152 West 41st Street. They had a radio in their home. There was no occupation shown for Lydia or her sons. Lydia's son, George, 23, and his wife, Aurelia, 24, were living nearby on West 36th Street in a home they were renting for $36 per month. They also had a radio in their home. George and Aurelia had been married for one year. George was listed as a proprietor of a parking station and Aurelia as a secretary for a Realtor

In 1940 Lydia Salisbury and her son David were still living at 152 West 41st Street, and in this census they listed their homes value at $2,500. Lydia was a 66-year old widow and her son David was 26 years old and single. Lydia had an 8th grade education and David had one year of college. David was working as a chicken pie baker in his own bakery. George and Aurelia were living in Venice in a home located at 6165 Angelus Vista which was valued at $8,000. George, 35, Aurelia, 35, were living with their children, George Ronald, 7, Jeannine, 2, and also in the home was their maid, Christiana Guarmeros, 60. George was working as a restaurant owner.

Three years later, Lydia passed away on September 13, 1943, in Los Angeles. Her daughter, Blanche married George Klein March, and together they founded the El Coyote Mexican Restaurant located at 7312 Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles, in 1931. Blanche passed away on June 11, 1991, in Los Angeles, and was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California, Acacia Section, Map 01, Lot 3872, Interment Space 2, along with her husband, George, who passed away nearly 40 years earlier in 1952.

Lydia's son, George, passed away in January of 1977, and was living in San Diego, California, at the time of his death. Lydia's son, David Parl Salisbury, passed away March 13, 1982, in Los Angeles at the age of 68. He was married to Elba, who passed away in 1998. They were both buried in Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles. Lydia's son, James C., (David's twin) born July 8, 1913, passed away on May 1, 1994, in Palos Verdes, California.
