Brief overview:
Carmen (37), who had an 11-week old baby, and her mother, Denise Simpson (60) were attacked in her home in Willowvale, EC, on 21st May 2013, when six attackers gained entry to her house. Carmen who was attacked in the shower, was bludgeoned with a hammer and an axe, sustained massive injuries. She was on life support in a coma in hospital, and was declared brain dead on 27th May.
Clothes and other valuables were stolen.
Six people appeared in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Monday after they allegedly killed a woman during a robbery, Eastern Cape police said. Four men Mzukisi Mshweshwe, Thulani Manganyelwa, Wandisile Gade, Zukisani Togwana, and domestic worker, Thembeka Mdakana, were arrested on Friday following the murder of Mdakana's employer, Carmen Manthe, and a sixth suspect Noltu Mapolisa on the Monday, Captain Jackson Manatha said.
Mapolisa was employed by Carmen as a domestic worker.
All six were charged with house robbery and murder. Mdakana and Mapolisa face an additional charge of conspiracy to commit murder. Their case was postponed to June 19 for a bail application.
