Carol O'Brien

Carol Kjos O’Brien, 73, passed away July 29, 2010. She was born Dec. 9, 1936, in Whitehall, the youngest of 13 children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard O’Brien; parents, Clara and Albert Kjos; and siblings, Paul, Alf, Richard, Margaret, Marion and Maxine.

She is survived by loving sons, John (Susie Kappes) and Mike (Ann); grandchildren, Kellie, Mitchell, Maia and Malia; and siblings, Vernon, Adeline, Audrey (Bing), Beverly (Larry), Deloris, (Ozzie) and Dorothy (Clayton).

Special thanks to all of Carol’s sisters and the Good Samaritan Home of Stillwater, Minn., for the wonderful care she received. Carol was known for her sense of humor and compassion for people.

Carol was raised in La Crosse and was in the Class of 1955 of La Crosse Central High School. Carol moved to St Paul, Minn., where she worked as a buyer for the Emporium. Carol then married Richard O’Brien. While raising two children, Carol managed an apartment building, sold real estate for Coldwell Banker and helped her husband with Giuseppe’s Pizza, the family business.

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held Aug. 14. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m. (Carol expressed that we wear colorful attire!) at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 420 West Ave. S., La Crosse.
