Carole C. Romanowski

June 15, 2023
HURLEY, Wis. - Carole C. Romanowski, 92, of Hurley, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2023, at her home.

Carole was born on Jan. 14, 1931, in Ironwood, Michigan, a daughter of Birger N. and Margaret M. (Kruger) Julin. She attended Lincoln High School in Hurley and graduated in 1948.

On Aug. 27, 1949, Carole married George P. Romanowski in Fort Riley, Kansas.

She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hurley, where she served as Eucharistic minister, sang in the choir, supported the women's council and taught catechism. Her faith was first and foremost above everything.

Carole currently held the position of president of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Hurley American Legion Post 58.

She was a meticulous homemaker, enjoyed cooking and baking, solving crossword puzzles, reading and sewing for her family.

Carole worked at Fontecchio's Bell Chalet, Trolla's Meats and Groceries, and for St. Mary's Catholic School hot lunch program. She concluded her working career as a certified nurse's aide at the Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Carole is survived by four daughters, Georgene (Richard) Metz, and their sons, Tony, Jason (Monica) and Jim; Roberta (Richie) Gheller; Carleen (Tom) Jurkowski, and their sons, Joe (Nicole) and Matthew; and Susie (Rick) Tippett; a son, Frank (Sandra) Romanowski, and their son, Benjamin; a granddaughter, Monica Romanowski; 11 great-grandchildren, Luke, Emily, Noah, Landon, Virgil, Ava, Louis, Archie, Princeton, Drew and Breanna; her sister and best friend, Gretchen Giancola; numerous dear nieces and nephews; and several cousins, including Walter (Grace) Maki, and Peter, Paul and Jack Sturgul.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, on July 15, 1999; a son, William, in August 2001; her siblings, Joyce, Wayne, Dean and Brenda; and her brother-in-law, Gus Giancola.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 404 Iron St., in Hurley, with the Rev. Hrudaya Raju Sunkara, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hurley.

A luncheon reception will be held in the parish hall immediately following committal services at the cemetery.

All that you are is everything we could ever hope to be. Love you Mom.
