Carrie was the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Baartman) Doppenberg. She was raised at Middleburg. On October 3,1940, she married Marion John Ter Horst at Orange City. They made their home in Orange City. He passed away December 23, 1971, in Orange City. Mrs. Ter Horst was a homemaker and also operated the Dutch Mill Cafe’ in Orange City for a few years. In January of 2002, she became a resident of the Heritage House Nursing Home in Orange City, where she passed away. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she had belonged to the Ruth Circle. She enjoyed reading and crocheting, especially afghans.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Janice and Dwaine Vander Vegte of Orange City; four grandchildren, Travis John of Orange City; Jonathan L. and his partner Joy, of Brandon, South Dakota; Carissa Jean and her partner Fer, of Orange City; and Brittany Ann of Orange City; a great-granddaughter, Yadira; two brothers, John Doppenberg, and William Doppenberg and his wife, Jeanette, all of Orange City; a brother-in-law, Peter Langstraat of Orange City; and two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Doppenberg of Orange City; and Janet Doppenberg of Lakewood, California.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Daryl; three sisters, Alice and her husband, Frank Van Der Zwaag, Elizabeth Langstraat and Matilda in childhood; three brothers, Peter and Bernard Doppenberg, and another Peter in childhood; and a sister-in-law, Nellie Doppenberg.
