About Carrol Louis Erickson

As written This Day of December 27, 2009 by my daughter Susan Ellen Erickson Hoffman.

I never knew much about my dad. My parents we only married 10 years divorcing in 1960 when I was only 6 years old. What I know about my dad is what I have been told.

My dad was a very handsome man, movie star handsome. My brothers all favored this about our dad, they were all as handsome as he was.

My dad was born April 24, 1924 to Joseph and Frieda Erickson in Scobey Montana, I believe my dad was the third child of this marriage. I could never understand why my dad had a girls name, but with two R's in it. Carrol. Funny name for a boy, but that was his name. I always remember everyone callling him "Lou" that would be is nickname.

My dad was 8 years older than my mom and I have no idea how or where they met. Since we were all so young when our parents divorced, I don't remember ever asking my mom too many questions about how they met, where did they get married, no questions asked. I just remember they were not married and my mom didn't have much good to say about our father so with that in mind you can imagine why we never asked. I just accepted life with no dad was I guess a normal thing, well to me anyway. And since I am writing this that is what I have to say about that.

I remember stories of my dad in his youth being a "Navy Man" he was only 17 when he joined. He was a gunner's mate on the U.S.S. South Dakota, now plying the Atlantic and the Meditteranean waters, over which are carried the men and supplies for the invasion army.

I have the write-up done on my dad, in my photo album of his life.

Another fact I knew of my father when he and my mom were married, was he was what they called a "Lineman" he climbed telephone poles. He helped work on something as I was told at "Yellowtail Damn" by Hardin, Montana.

Other than just those facts written above and other tid-bits here and there about my father is all I know about him. Since our parents divorced when I was very young back in those days child support was not enforced so he didn't pay any and consiquently

My father died from brain and lung cancer in Billings Montana November 28,1997. Since my parents divorce when we were small children we had little contact with him. My father was an alcoholic this leaving many challenges to having any relationship with him. I do believe one of the many regrets he may have had in his life was the fact that he did not have the ability to have any relationship with his children.
