Casper Glatfelter/Gladfelter III was born c. August 16, 1797 in York, Pennsylvania, the son of Casper Glatfelter II & Maria Eva (Kirsch) Gladfelter. Casper Glatfelter II was born in 1758, while Maria was born in 1765, in Shrewsbury, York County, Pennsylvania. Casper II is believed to have died in 1823, while Maria is believed to have died in 1851.

As state above, George Glatfelter took his family west to Illinois sometime before 1847 and 1850. There they settled in Stark County, Illinois. Sometime between 1850 and 1854, Casper and Elizabeth followed George to Illinois, where they settled in northern Peoria County. They settled just south of Stark County in the area of Peoria County that would soon become part of Princeville Township. There Casper farmed the land for a living and the children grew to adulthood working the land beside their father.
