Mr. Hill has been a substantial, influential citizen in the neighborhood south of town and himself and family have a great many friends who regret their departure and will wish them happiness in their home.
SOME EXCERPTS FROM THE OBITUARY OF CASPER HILL, SR.
Casper Hill, Sr. of Glenwood City, Wisconsin died at the local hospital (Canova) at midnight on Thursday, January 5, 1928 after an extensive illness of bladder trouble.
Mr. Hill was born March 28, 1854 at Diefenbach Lachsen Weimer Eisenbach, Germany and was 73 years, 9 months, and 8 days old at his death. Mr. Hill came to the United States at the age of 17 years and settled at Kirchhain, Wisconsin and worked there for some time at his trade of shoemaker. He was married to Emelie Koepsell at that place on November 10, 1876.
In March 1881 Mr. Hill and his family came to Canova and settled on a homestead which today is known as the John Block farm near the South of Town Lutheran Church. In 1902 Mr. and Mrs. Hill moved to a farm near Glenwood City, Wisconsin and lived on it until six years ago when they retired from active work and moved to Glenwood City.
About a month before Christmas, Mr. and Mrs. Hill came to Canova to visit their children and find relief if possible from his sickness but in spite of all that could be done he continued to fail rapidly and the end came peacefully on last Thursday and he was released from all pain and suffering.
The pastor who officiated at the funeral was Rev. F.W. Spieler. Burial was made in the cemetery at the church.
NOTE: The land (several acres, some thought 20 A.) that Immanuel Lutheran Church, the parsonage and cemeteries are on today was donated by Casper and Emelie Hill.
