Philadelphia, June 30 –
Casper J. Knight, crier of Common Pleas
Court No. 1, collapsed and died last night
in a mid-city restaurant at the age of 62.
Born in this city and educated in its
public schools and the Drexel Institute of
Technology, Mr. Knight attained prominence
locally as the playing manager of several
baseball teams and as a Republican ward
leader. He was in the construction business
before becoming a court official in 1941.
Mr. Knight was a director of the Middle
Atlantic Amateur Athletic Union and a
former governor of the Loyal Order of
Moose in Philadelphia.
He leaves a son, Casper Jr., a former
football star at Valley Forge Military
Academy and the University of Alabama
and now president of the Philadelphia
County Council, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
