Biography

Henry was born in 1763. He was the son of Reuben Wightman and Sarah Unknown. He passed away in 1849.

Henry Whitman lived in Warwick, in Coventry, in Providence, and in Cranston. In 1785 he sold his inheritance from his father's estate to his uncle David Wightman of Warwick, describing it as bordering on the land of Caleb Wightman and "Sarah, my mother, now wife of Gideon Spencer." He owned property later in the various localities in which he lived. In 1777 he served three months as a "waiter" in the company commanded by his father Captain Reuben, enlisting when not yet fifteen years of age. Later, in 1796, he was "Captain Henry" of the 3rd Company of Cranston militia. He was pensioned, his deposition being dated 6 September 1837 (File W. 1681, Rev. Serv.).

Henry Whitman died intestate. His widow in her will names her two children and her grandchildren.

Marriage

He married in Cranston, Providence County, Rhode Island, 3 January 1788, Roby Knight, born 27 April 1769 in Cranston; died 20 September 1855 in Warwick, daughter of Benjamin and Dorcas Knight.
