About Catharina van den Berghe
Her mother was Maria of Thurn & Taxis. Daniel van den Berghe, her father, from a minor noble family from Leuven, had moved to Brussels. He greatly elevated his status through his marriage. The family assumed the fictive toponym "de Limminghe" to underscore their Leuven origins. Later, the family was elevated to the status of counts by Philip II of Spain, accumulating wealth, status, property, and a grandiose, multicolored coat of arms.
Catharina married into the noble family of de Haro, which had been the ruling house of Biscay until fused by marriage into the House of Leon.
