notes

From Memorials of the Cranes of Chilton: With a Pedigree of the Family, and the ... By William Sumner Appleton. Page 67

Henry Crane afterwards married, or, as some of the pedigrees read, "is said" to have married Katherine, third daughter and coheiress of John Jernegan of Somerleyton. She was certainly mother of Robert Crane, and possibly of a daughter Frances, wife of John Appleton. No attempt seems to have been made, during the lifetime of Sir Robert Crane, to deprive him of any part of his inheritance on the ground of illegitimate birth; the powerful influence of the Jermyns and Jernegans was of course ready in his behalf.

Robert Crane was brought up in the family of Sir Robert Jermyn of Rushbrook, Knight.
