Catherine Eliza DuVal (1797-post1870) married in 1819, her second cousin, Methodist minister Rev. Samuel Sheppard DuVal Jr. (1798-1867), son of Samuel Sheppard (1752-1825) and Anne Everard Bolling DuVal. They lived in Hopkins County, KY.
Their nine children were America (1827-95); Archibald (c1828-); Nicholas (c1828-); John (c1830-) who married Margaret; Caroline (c1834-); Alexander (c1836-); Ann A. (c1838-); Lucy J. (c1841-post1860); and Virginia DuVal (c1844-).
America DuVal (1827-95) lived in Simpson County, KY. She married (1) in 1855, James Graham Dickey (1788-1867), son of Ebenezer and Mary Graham Dickey of Simpson County. She married (2) in 1870, Elijah Williams (1815-95). Virginia DuVal (c1844-) lived in Corsicana, TX. She married in 1876, John Posey Cabell (1841-), son of John Breckinridge (1808-62) and Martha Posey Cabell (1815-62), of Henderson, KY. Five children were Samuel Sheppard (1878-), Martha (1879-), Archibald Bolling (1880-1974), John Posey, Jr. (1884-) and Calvin S. Cabell (1886-).
Catherine Eliza Duval's mother was Elizabeth Pope (1760-1815), second daughter of Nathaniel Pope, IV (1729-1806) and Lucy Smith (Fox) Pope (1732-89), who was born April 15, 1760, in Louisa County, VA. She married in 1780, Maj. Claiborne DuVal (1760-1824), son of Samuel (1714-1784) and Lucie Claiborne DuVal (1725-1810), of Mt. Comfort, Richmond, VA. He was a volunteer during the Yorktown campaign, 1781. In 1791, they moved to Kentucky and eventually to Logan (now Simpson) County, KY.
Their nine children were Nathaniel Pope (1785-1808) who was killed in a duel in Clarksville, (IN); Rev. Claiborne Lawson (1788-1834); Lucius Claiborne (1789-1845); Caroline Pope (1791-1881); Alexander De La Plaunche (1793-1851); Amelia (1796-ante1810); Catherine Eliza (1797-post 1870); Adeline Matilda (1799-1860); and Susan Ann DuVal (1802-45).
Rev. Claiborne Lawson DuVal (1788-1834) was a Methodist minister in southern Kentucky and in 1816 built Antioch Church, the first church in Union County. He married in 1816, Jane Elizabeth Russell (1794-1861), daughter of John Coates (1769-1822) and Anne Clay Russell (1771-1817) of Muhlenburg County, KY, and a descendent of General William Russell of Revolutionary War fame.
Their seven children were John Claiborne (c1818- d.yg), Ann Elizabeth (c1820-), John Wesley (1821-51), Dr. William Claiborne (1824-1904), Eleazar Clay (1828-38), Caroline Tabitha (1830-1900) and Hardy Murfree Cryer DuVal (1833-92).
Lucius Claiborne DuVal (1789-1845) was a farm owner near Morganfield, KY. He married in 1818, Tabitha Adams Russell (1796-1862), daughter of John Coates (1769-1822) and Anne Clay Russell (1771-1817) of Morganfield, Union County, KY.
Their eleven children were John Russell (c1819-79), Mary Ann (1821-75), Eliza P. (d.inf), Lucius C. (c1825-), Martha L. (1827-50), William H. C. (1829-) who lived in Morey Flat, CA, Tabitha Adams (1831-), Samuel Claude (1832-1900), Charles T. (1836-1906), Edwin Robert (d.inf), and Daniel A. DuVal (1841-61) who died in Fredericksburg, VA.
Caroline Pope DuVal (1791-1881) married (1) in 1812, John Price, Jr. (1788-1815), son of John and Mary Ann Johnson Price of Goochland County, VA. They moved to Logan County, KY. Their children were William Claiborne (1813-post 1850) and Mary Ann Price (1815-72).
She married (2) in 1824, Thomas Wright Taylor (1774-1847), son of Nathaniel and Mary Goodale Wright Taylor. Their four children were Capt. Bushrod DuVal (1825-69), Elizabeth Caroline (1826-35), James Alexander (1827-79) and Gabriel Fountain Taylor (1831-70).
