About Catherine Eddowes
"Catherine Eddowes was born at Graiseley Green in Wolverhampton, England on 14 April 1842. Her parents were tinplate worker George Eddowes and his Catherine Eddowes (née Evans). Her mother died in 1855 and her father not long after. Catherine was admitted as an orphan to a Bermondsey Workhouse. She married former soldier Thomas Conway in 1863 and they had three children together before separating. Catherine then met and formed a relationship with John Kelly. She was aged 46 when she was murdered" (bio by Debbie McCauley, 15 January 2021).
NOTE: Please do not add post-mortem images to this profile (or link to sources that do so). Most of the Whitechapel Murder victims had brutally hard lives and nowhere to turn, they were failed by society back then, much like many are today. They were the victims of violent crime and to see the pictures of their bodies so casually strewn across the internet reflects a systemic misogyny that saw police investigations fail to catch the murderer at the time and unfortunately is still demeaning these women today.
NOTE: There is no known photograph of Catherine that exists - some that claim to be of her on the internet are not.
