About Catherine Hiers

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/97662681/catherine-hiers_stewart
She survived her husband who died about 1807 and soon afterwards married Duncan Stewart and had one child, Catherine C., born 1809, South Carolina, married Joseph Smyley who lived in her last years at Buckhead-Causey, South Carolina. Charles Smyley, a son of Joseph, was living in 1912, and is authority for most of the data given in this sketch.

Due to loss of Orangeburg County records, not much from that source can be learned about the early Hiers family. Jacob Hiers served in the Revolutionary War in a volunteer company of Orangeburg County men commanded by Capt. James Jones.
