CATHARINE (2) KENDRICK (Zacharias (1) was born circa 1802 likely in Charles Co., Md. and died between June 1860 (39) and 19 November 1855, (63) daughter of Zacharias Kendrick and his wife Chloe Hamilton. By 1825, (64) she married John Benjamin F. Cawood (65) who was born circa 1798 (66) and died before 5 March 1866, in Prince George's Co., Md. (67) \par By 23 May 1818, John B.(Benjamin) F. Cawood was an adult living in Prince George's Co., Md. when he and Thomas P.M. Cawood, also of the same county, entered into a bill of sale with Stephen Cawood of Prince George's Co., Md.(68) In the deed, Stephen Cawood sold seven slaves (Tom, Maria and her child, Linda and her child, Tom who was circa 22 years, and Henny who was circa 16 years), livestock (steer, horses, cows, and hogs), farm equipment, house and kitchen furnishings, two small schooners and row boats, barrels of corn and pickled shad, and hogsheads of pickled herring to John B.F. Cawood and Thomas P.M. Cawood for $3,000.00. Stephen Cawood signed the deed and acknowledged before James A. Beale. \par John Benjamin F. Cawood may have been living in the household of Stephen Cearwood (Cawood) (b. by 1775) at the time of the 1820 U.S. census which listed the Cearwood dwelling close to the Zacheriah Kendrick dwelling in Prince George's Co., Md. (69) Among the free white members in the Cearwood household, the census listed three free white males between the ages of 16 and 26 years. One of these males may have been John Benjamin F. Cawood. \par After his marriage to Catharine Kendrick, John Benjamin F. Cawood continued to live in Prince George's Co., Md. near the Zachariah Kendrick household as the tax assessments for King George and Grub Hundred in Prince George's Co., Md indicated. After Zachariah Kendrick died, the Court granted letters of administration to John B.F.Cawood in 1832, and he served as the administrator of the estate. \par The 1840 U.S. census for the Fifth Election District in Prince George's Co., Md. listed the household of John B.F. Cawood whose age was between 40 and 50 years, placing his date of birth between 1789 and 1800. (70) The household included a free white female, likely wife Catharine, between 30 and 40 years, placing her date of birth between 1799 and 1810. The Census also listed the following free white minors, with ages in years, who may have all been children of John B.F. Cawood and his wife Catharine Kendrick: males (three under five, two between five and 10, one between 10 and 15, and one between 15 and 20) and females (one between five and 10 and one between 10 and 15). The household also included a free white female between 20 and 30 years who, with only speculation, may have been Jane Kendrick, sister of Catharine. Further, the household included six slaves, three males and three females. Six persons in the household worked in agriculture. \par A few years later, the 1845 and 1847 tax assessments for Prince George's Co., Md. listed Jno. B.F. Cawood with 350 and 1/4 acres of land called part James and Elizabeth in Prince George's Co., Md.71 Further, the same tax lists assessed him for livestock, household items, (silver) plates, and other personal property in the Fifth Election District. Not much later, on 27 April 1848, John B.F. Cawood and his wife Catharine of Prince George's Co., Md. sold 138 acres of land in Prince George's Co., MD to George E. Dixon of Prince George's Co., Md. for $690.00. (72) Both John B.F. Cawood and Catharine Cawood signed and acknowledged the deed before Richard H. Frazier and J.M. Martin, Justices of the Peace, and Catharine released her dower rights before them. \par Two years later, the 1850 U.S. census listed J.B.F. Cawood, 52 years, farmer with $900.00 of real estate, as head of his household in the Piscataway District of Prince George's Co., Md. (73) The household also included C. (his wife Catharine) Cawood, 47 years, and (his) Cawood children with ages in years as follows: C. (Charles) 25, Jno. 20, M. (Mary) 18, A. (Andrew) 12, E. (Edgar) 11, Z. a male nine, Ann five, and Alice four. The Census noted that all members of the household were born in Md. Catharine (Kendrick) Cawood died before 19 November 1855, marriage license date for her husband and her sister Jane. \par Besides possible other children that the 1840 U.S. census suggested, (74) the 1850 U.S. census, 1860 U.S. census, (75) and the final administrative account for the estate of John B.F. Cawood (76) identified his following children with Catharine Kendrick as the presumed mother for all of them who were likely all born in Prince George's Co., Md.: \par I. Charles (3) H.
