Catherine G. Marthaler
Catherine G. Marthaler, 90 of Sauk Centre, died on Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at Douglas County Hospital in
Alexandria.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church
in Sauk Centre. Rev. Bernard Kahlhamer will officiate with interment following in St. Alexius Cemetery, West
Union.
Catherine Marthaler was born on Aug.17, 1910, in St. Stephen, Minn., to John and Gertrude (Smoley) Peternell.
She married Martin H. Marthaler on Oct. 28, 1930, in St. Stephen. The couple farmed near Osakis. Catherine
resided in Sauk Centre from 1964 until 1999 when she moved to Terrace Heights in Osakis.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, St. Ann's Mission Group, Sauk
Centre Seniors and was a volunteer at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
She is survived by four children, Martin Marthaler and his wife, Alice, of Marshall, Jerome Marthaler and his
wife, JoAnn, of Alexandria, Beatrice Massmann and her husband, Fred, and Donald Marthaler of Sauk Centre; 24
grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph and Edward Peternell of St. Stephen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin on Dec. 26, 1960; sister and brothers, Mary Legatt, John,
Frank, Andrew and Thomas Peternell.
Pallbearers will be Greg and Tom Massmann, Mark Jensen, Todd, Chad and Kenneth Marthaler with Arlene
Marthaler serving as crossbearer.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral Servicel, Sauk Centre.
