Catherine McGann

Catherine was the first born, around 1908. Then when she was very young, her mother died. It seems from the 1920 Census that she, her father, and her brother William still lived in Newark, with a boarder named Mary McDermott, age 43, who came over from Ireland in 1887. She was probably a cousin; Catherine's grandmother was Bridget McDermott. At some point when Catherine was young, the family lived with her mother's Reilly family at the St. John's victorian.

Catherine never married. Her entire life was dedicated to social work at Catholic Charities. In her later years she moved to an apartment in Waterbury, Connecticut, and was best friends with a neighbor there. It was such a joy to visit her! Catherine was lovely and gracious, always supportive, well educated, and interested in everything. She's dearly missed.
