About Catherine Pettit
"Catherine Teague Haws Hughes", also surnamed Pettit.
According to Susan Johnson, moved from Georgia in 1832, and her father may have been Bernard Hughes. "Katy" was wealthy, owning several slaves, and was 'well-known' amongst the Cherokee. Her descendants court case (1888 to 1897) establishes her as Cherokee

Although the case has several inaccuracies (noted by Susan Johnson), these do not conflict with later research that affirms her native ancestry.
