Biography

Catherine married first Hendrick Mulliner.[2]

Children, baptisms at Somerville, New Jersey:[3]

  1. Joost Adriansen bap. 30 April 1707, of Hendrick Muelenaer and Katelyn, witnesses Adriaen Muelenaer and wife
  2. Maryken bap. 26 April 1709, of Hendrick Muelenaer and wife, witnesses Jacob Bodyn and Kataleyn
  3. Jan bap. 25 April 1711, of Hendrick Muelenaer and wife, witnesses Isaac Bodien and wife
  4. Lisebet bap. 6 August 1712, of Hendrick Muelenaer and wife, witnesses Katrina Van Neste and Pier Van Neste

Hendrick died in 1712.

Catherine married second Isaac VanMeter maybe by 1719, when Isaac became executor of the estate of Hendrick Mulliner after Adrian Molenaer and Isaac Bodine renounced their right to executorship on 4 March 1718.[4][5] They were definitely married by 1722, when daughter Sarah was baptized.[6]

Isaac Vanmeter had many children by two wives. It is unclear when Catherine died, so it is difficult to identify exactly her children with him. But the list includes:

  1. Henry b. ca. 1720
  2. Sarah bap. 23 of 2nd month 1722
  3. Abraham bap.12 of 6th month 1724

On 29 September 1725, Catherine Vanmeter and Joost Adriansan Mulinaer [her son] witnessed the will of Andrew Hoffman at Pilesgrove, New Jersey.[7]

Many authors state that she died in 1725 or "soon after." However, there is reason to believe instead that she died sometime between 2 May 1730 and probably October 1731 (see below).

Parentage

No primary information or original record is known to identify the wife of Henrick Mulliner as a daughter of Jean Bodine. Some careful authors (e.g., McGeehan) do not attribute her a surname even while listing the circumstantial evidence for the identification.

Sarah Bodine, daughter of Jean, reportedly married Jan Vanmetre, elder brother of Isaac. When Hendrick died leaving Catherine with four young children to support, it was common for a single man already "in the family" to become the second husband. This may have been the case here: if Catherine and Sarah were sisters, Sarah's brother-in-law Isaac would have been a natural person to become Cathererine's second husband.
