Aaron Van Syckel 1764–1838
Born more than a decade before the American Revolution, Mrs. Van Syckle/Syckel, nee Catharine Opdyke, died in her 90th year, having celebrated her 89th birthday almost a month before her passing. Unlike the grim gravestones of the 1700's, the century during which she lived much of her adult life, her gravestone reflects a gentler view of death. Embellished with bas-relief birds, ribbons, and floral motifs, it features a kindly angel in its tympanum, and typifies mid-Victorian attitudes.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Aug 28 2019, 14:21:07 UTC
