Cathy Odendaal (1956 - 2007)
Brief overview:
Cathy (51), was tortured, raped, strangled and stabbed to death at her home in Farnham Road, Lynwood Manor, Pretoria, during the day, on 16th October 2007. The security company called Cathy's husband, Gideon, to inform him that there were problems at his house. Gideon, who was in the Western Cape at the time, called the domestic helper, and when she eventually answered, she said, "They're busy hurting her."
Police and forensics arrived at the house, and shortly afterwards, Cathy's daughter Marlize, who had been at the Kruger National Park, also arrived.

- Mavhungu Wilson Mapadahanya, was murdered in his Lynwood Glen, Pretoria home, on 13th October 2007.
- Between 13 and 16 October last year, Matlala and Dithung left a trail of crime in Lynnwood Manor, Pretoria, They also shot a three-year-old Malawian girl, Alphiner Ndalana, in the back during a robbery.
- Metro Police tried to stop the residents after they erected barriers made from tin drums, to control traffic coming into the streets. Lynwood Manor resident, Dr Kevin Gast said "When you have toddlers shot and woman raped and tortured the mood is very tense.” "We've applied to the municipality for some form of assistance more than ten years ago," said Gast. "We adhered to the letter to every rule in the book with no response whatsoever.” While Gast said they had a good relationship with the police and the Metro Police, the community had had enough after two murders, one attempted murder and one armed robbery incident - all within 5 days. "We've had so many murders, robberies, attempted murders in our area in the last few months that it's actually quite appalling," said Gast. - 3rd December 2007 - "Three men accused of Cathy's torture, rape and murder will know next year if their case will be heard in a higher court. The men, aged 23, 29 and 45, who cannot be named as they have not yet pleaded to the sexually related charge, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court facing two counts of murder, assault, armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. During the men’s previous appearance it was heard they were wanted in connection in another case of murder and two attempted murders. They were remanded in custody until January 21st 2008 pending the Director of Public Prosecutions’ decision whether to take the case to the Pretoria High Court. Members of the community arrested the men from Mamelodi. The incident has prompted residents of the area to erect street booms."

- Mohlatsi Alfred Matlala (24), was given two life sentences plus one in the Pretoria High Court and sentenced to a further 37 years, while Jacob Tshepo Dithung (30), was sentenced to life imprisonment and a further 20 years.
- They were earlier found guilty on two counts each of murder, attempted murder, burglary with intent to steal and theft, as well as attempted rape, aggravated robbery and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
