About Cecil Bisshopp, 12th Baron Zouche
Biographical Summary
Sir Cecil Bishopp, or Bisshopp, Bart. [1620], of Parham aforesaid, s. and h., b. 29 Dec. 1753 ; suc. to the Baronetcy in Sep. 1779 ; M.P. for New Shoreham, 1780-90 and 1796—1806 ; F.R.S. ; D.C.L., Oxford, 5 July 1810. He established his claim, made 7 Feb. 1804 (in right of his mother, through the families of Hedges, Tate and Zouche) as a coheir of the Barony of Zouche (cr. 1308, but in abeyance since 1625), and (the abeyance of that ancient title having been determined in his favour) was, accordingly, sum. to the House of Lords, by writ, 27 Aug. 1815, as LORD ZOUCHE DE HARYNGWORTH. He m., 27 June 1782, at St. Martin's in the Fields, Harriet Anne, only da. and h. of William Southwell, of Frampton, co. Gloucester, by his 2d wife, Arabella, da. of Henry Pye, of Faringdon Berks. He d. s.p.m.s. 11 Nov. 1828, at Parham, aforesaid, when the Barony of Zouche fell again into abeyance between his two daughters and coheirs, while the Baronetcy (but not, however, the family estate) devolved on the heir male. His will pr. 1828. His widow d. 10 Dec. 1839, at Hyde Park place west, aged 79, and was bur. at Parham. Will pr. Jan. 1840.
