Had a garage for many years in Kokstad ,East Griqualand. He was a noted racing car driver on local race tracks in the forties and fifties. His brother Vernon built him a racing car with a Chrysler engine and chassis and a Armstrong Sidderly preselector gearbox. He and his brother Max were a formidable pair on the track, but never quite beating Max. He moved to Port Shepstone in the seventies in ill health ,where he passed away. I (Vincent Gillman-Bate) was given his old racer, but it was sadly past repair.I attended many of the race meetings with my father Malcolm G-Bate,who had grown up with the Miller boys.
