Celia's (53), blood-spattered body was discovered by her husband Hendrik Johannes Janse van Vuuren 'Hennie' (53) when he arrived at the farm after having dropped off workers. She had been shot dead in the garden in front of their house at about 18:00 on Wednesday.

Hennie tried to escape his attackers, but he was shot in the leg through his vehicle door. He was then forced to kneel next to his bakkie at the gate and executed - shot in the forehead.

TLU spokesperson Dries Joubert described the attacks on farmers as "low-intensity war". "The fact that nothing was stolen, proves once and for all that the police are wrong in claiming that the motive is crime." Agri SA's Kiewiet Ferreira said given attacks on farmers, it was becoming increasingly difficult to convince them not to take the law into their own hands.

  • Three men found guilty of the murders and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Modimolle High Court in June 2008. Herbert Ramushu, was arrested a day after the incident at Ga-Masemola by members of the Organised Crime Unit, and the other two men - Zethonia Mamphulu and Ben Mokobe - were arrested during the following two weeks. The men were all found guilty on charges of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, and armed robbery. They were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for armed robbery, five years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and three years for the possession of ammunition.
