Salina -- Celly Zimmerman, 90, former Schoenchen resident, died Thursday, July 25, 2002, at Salina Regional Health Center. He was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Schoenchen to John and Rosa (Dreher) Zimmerman. He was a graduate of Schoenchen High School.
He married Barbara Werth on Sept. 29, 1936, in Schoenchen. She died April 29, 1985.
He was a retired farmer and former sexton of the St. Anthony Cemetery in Schoenchen. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Schoenchen.
Survivors include four sons, Joel and Kenneth, both of Hays, Cary Don, Salina, and Jude, San Antonio, Texas; three daughters, Faye Ann Geschwentner, Ellis, Jeanette Kraft, Emporia, and Helena Godfrey, Salina; three brothers, Clarence, Warsaw, Ind., Henry, Wichita, and Connie, Hays; 21 grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and 14 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Jake, Carl, Fred, Julius, Jerry and Seraphine, a grandson and a great-grandson. Services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Schoenchen, with Father David Gottschalk officiating; burial in the church cemetery.
A Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Cemetery Fund.
