About Celia Brown

=TULSA WORLD=

Celia Livingston Brown, age 97, passed away December 16, 2010, in Dallas, Texas. She had fought the ravages of Alzheimer’s for the past several years, and is finally at peace, which she so richly has earned. She is survived by her 3 loving children and their families: Dr. Jay L. Brown (Lyda) and their daughters Jacquelyn Brown- Belknap (Pete) and Steffany Rogne (Jason); Dr. Richard L. Brown; Linda E. Comess (Burt) and their sons Michael and Jeffrey (Victoria). Celia was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Jack I. Brown, who passed away in 1998. Celia was born in Litchfield, Illinois on September 22, 1913, to Ida and Sol Livingston. The family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma when she was about 7 years old, and she grew up and was educated in the Tulsa School System, graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1931, and attended Oklahoma University. She worked for a number of years after OU for Phillips Petroleum, as a personals service representative. She met the love of her life in 1936, and after a wonderful courtship married Jack I. Brown on December 10, 1939. Together, they raised their family, making certain that each of them was instilled with the values and ethics that create great pride in knowing your children possess. She was exceptionally proud that both of her sons became dentists, and practiced for a time together in Dallas and that Linda and Burt decided to live in Dallas as well. Most of all, she was first and foremost and wonderful mother and wife, and both she and Jack placed family as their highest priority. Celia was a member of B’nai Emunah Synagogue of Tulsa, and had been an active member in Sisterhood, and had served as an officer in that organization. She had been a member of Meadowbrook Country Club, and was an avid golfer, who won the club championship on several occasions, and also had won her class championship at Women’s Mohawk Golf Course. She was an active sponsor and participant in all of her children’s activities, and was always there for her family. Celia was the 2nd youngest of her family of 8 brothers and sisters, being preceded in death by her 7 siblings. It was a great family in every aspect. The entire group of brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and the history of Sol and Ida coming to America, raising their family, and their children raising their own is one that America is built upon. Our mother was simply a wonderful woman, whose love, loyalty, and kindness is not replaceable. We were so fortunate to have her as our Mother. A Graveside Service will be at Rose Hill Cemetery (Old Section-Congregation B’nai Emunah) at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 17, 2010. Rabbi Marc Fitzerman will officiate. Fitzgerald Funeral Service – Ivy Chapel 585- 1151.
