About Gertrude Livingston
==TULSA WORLD== LIVINGSTON - Gertrude, peacefully passed away in San Rafael, CA, on Thursday, May 17, 2007, 6 months short of her 100th birthday. Born December 18, 1907 in Southern Illinois. Her family, which consisted of 3 sisters and 2 brothers, moved to Tulsa, in 1920. Gertrude was a graduate of Tulsa Central High School. In 1937, Gertrude married Julius Livingston in Galveston, TX, in a ceremony performed by the famous Rabbi Henry Cohen. For the next 53 years, Gertrude was an active partner with Julius in many philanthropic, charitable, and civic projects and organizations benefiting Tulsa, Oklahoma, Israel, the Jewish Community and human rights. She served as an officer and on the board of directors of many organizations, ranging from the Tulsa Opera and Philharmonic Society, Tulsa Chapter of Hadassah, American Red Cross, to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In 1993, after the passing of her husband in 1990, she moved to San Rafael, to be close to her grandsons. For the next 10 years, she was an active participant in retirement living in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was especially involved in book and reading programs and was head of "The Great Discussion Series" at her retirement center. At the age of 93, she suffered a severe stroke, which required her to move to an assisted living facility. She is remembered fondly by the many employees and staff, for her consistent smile and outgoing personality. She is survived by: 2 sons, Alan Livingston of Houston and David Livingston of Tiburon, CA; grandsons, Jordan and Michael of California; former daughter-in-law, Ruth of Tiburon; sister, Celia Brown of Dallas, TX; and brother, Elmer Livingston of Tulsa; her loving caretaker for the last 6 years, Lynn Gooch of Santa Rosa, CA. Graveside service, 3p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2007, in the Old Temple Section of Rose Hill Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Gertrudes' memory to Temple Israel, The Julius and Gertrude Livingston Oklahoma Jewish Archives as part of the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art, or the Tulsa Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
