Charles married his first wife, Mary, about 1742 (based on the age of their eldest child; I have not found a marriage license or other record). The couple had seven children, two or three of whom died young. Eldest child, Catherine married Isaac FitzRandolph, who will appear later in this story.

The article was headlined "AN OLD FAMILY BIBLE" "It Contains the
Genealogy of the Hoff, Carter and Smith Families 150 Year Back"

Mrs. James L. Creveling of Bloomsbury has in her possession a Bible
which was presented to her great grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Carter, by her
father, Charles Hoff, on February 7, 1777.Some parts of the sacred
book are destroyed but is in the main in a good state of preservation.
Thee pages are devoted to the records of the Hoff and Carter families.

an American minister of the German Reformed Church whose churches finally joined the Dutch communion, was born in Philadelphia, June 14, 1774, and studied theology with his brother, Casper Wack. He was pastor at Amwell, N. J., from 1798 to 1803; supplied Knowlton and Hardwick from 1798 to 1805; pastor at Canajoharie and Stone Arabia, N. Y., from 1803 to 1814; suspended on account of intemperance in 1816; preached as an independent at Canajoharie and Stone Arabia from 1816 to 1827; also preached in the independent Church of Tillaborough for several years.
