NORMAN, CHAMBLESS W., age 94, died peacefully on Monday, December 29, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Gail Morano; second wife, Harriette and their four children: Babette Ford (Robert), Johanna (Steven Berkowitz), Cham Jr., and Ed (Susan Hazlett); eight grandchildren: Mark (Tracy), Matt (Laurie) and Bert (Annika) Morano; Hans Ford; Avery and Jesse Berkowitz; and Clara and Erin Hazlett-Norman; eight great grandchildren; sister, Loulie Jean Norman Price. Cham grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, the oldest son of Ed and Becky Norman's five children and graduated from Phillips High School. He worked for TCI for several years and then as a marine surveyor with the American Bureau of Shipping in Manhattan, Germany and Nashville before moving back to Birmingham. He was a member of the Second Congregational Church in Greenwich, CT and Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, AL. Cham was a champion bowler, an avid bridge player and a lover of Alabama football. He resided at Altamont retirement home in Birmingham for the past ten years. His love for family, friends and humor will be dearly missed. His service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2003 at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests that memorials be made to Canterbury United Methodist Church Outreach Care Teams, 350 Overbrook Rd, Mountain Brook, AL 35213 or Botanical Gardens, 2612 Lane Park Rd., Birmingham, AL 35223. Ridout's Elmwood Chapel, 205-251-7227, is directing.
