Chantel Kershaw (1976 - 2020)
Brief overview:
Chantel (44), a farmer fron Sundra, Delmas, was attacked and strangled to death, and her mother assaulted, on 30th September 2020.
Chantel was preparing to perform her daily tasks at the farm, and asked her employee to assist in loading a lawnmower into the bakkie when she saw two armed men inside the yard. She was screaming for help as she was being attacked. After strangling Chantel, the two perpetrators then went to the house where they assaulted her mother Grieta with a firearm. They locked a female employee in the bathroom, and stole numerous items, including a firearm, before fleeing the scene in the family’s white Chevrolet bakkie. Her mother alerted the neighbourhood watch.
Three men, which includes the gardener, are due to appear in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court.

- March 2022: Themba Moses Masuku was sentenced this month in the Circuit High Court in Delmas to effectively 15 years in prison on charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances and defeating the law.The murder charges against Masuku were dropped after he pleaded guilty to the other two charges and agreed to testify against his two co-accused. At the time, these two men were apparently told by Masuku to attack and tie up Grieta and Chantel.
- Monica Nyuswa, spokeswoman for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), says the case against the two remaining suspects charged with Kershaw's murder will be heard later this year.
- The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has welcomed a hefty sentence that was handed down to two farm murderers. On 13 September 2023, the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court which was sitting in Delmas sentenced Thomas Reuben Tivane (50) and Kenneth Mashego (50) for murder and house robbery. Tivane was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and 20 years imprisonment for robbery. Mashego was also sentenced to life imprisonment for murder as well as 15 years imprisonment for robbery.
