Her mom died when Tilda was only 8 mos old; It appears her dad looked to her mother's family for assistance in raising her; however, by the age of 14, in 1900, Tilda was living with her maternal aunt Sarah "Sallie" {Aday} Parrish in Hardin Co, TN. Tilda was known as a "party girl" as a young woman. She married Bob Melton, a man over 35 yrs older than her, on Aug 19, 1908, in Hardin County, TN. They had 1 child (Elija "Lige" Anderson Melton) before Bob's death in 1910. Tilda remarried to Jim Whitaker on March 24, 1915, again in Hardin Co, TN. They had 4 children, 2 daughters & 2 sons.
