Obituary
Charles A. Zeller, 90, of Miller, died Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Hand County Memorial Hospital, Miller.
Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30a.m. Thursday, January 11 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller, with Father John Helmueller officiating. Burial was in St. Ann’s Cemetery, directed by Reck Funeral Home, Miller. Visitation was 5:00-7:00p.m. Wednesday, January 10 with a 7:00p.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Charles was born in Huron on April 24, 1916 to Val and Emily (Sprenger) Zeller. In 1919, they moved to Gilbert Township in Hand County where they lived until they moved to Miller in 1939. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Salem and later joined the Army of the United States in 1941. He was the first draftee for World War II from Miller. Charles married Teresa Schaefer of Polo on July 23, 1946 in Miller. He was a carpenter most of his life and his hobbies were woodworking and genealogy.
He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the American Legion, and the McWhorter Historical Society.
He is survived by his children: Don (Linda) of Pierre, Beverly Krause of Rapid City, Jerry (Barb) of Minneapolis, Janice (Jim) Moore of Aberdeen, and Mary (Dave) Roth of Rapid City; five grandchildren; two great grandsons; two special nephews: Erwin Schaefer of Etiwanda, CA and Gary Dwyer of Owasso, OK; and one brother: Melvin (Dorothy) of Miller.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife Teresa; and one son-in-law: Ken Krause of Edmond, OK.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
