About Charles Adshade, SV/PROG

There is an anomaly here :

  1. According to the Adshade Family Tree (see Sources), Charles' father arrived in Cape Town from England in 1825, accompanied by Charles, aged 6. Charles then became a Cooper in Swellendam. He fathered a daughter, Anne.
  2. Another Charles Adshade arrived in Cape Town aboard the Charles Kerr in 1833, as a ward of the Children's Friend Society from London. He became a Cooper to Thomas Matthew.

Charles Adshade (Alias Hatchett) was born in England. He was in the care of the Children’s Friend Society before being sent to the Colonies “to give these children the chance of a better life”. He was apprenticed as a Cooper to Thomas Matthew.
