About Charles Arthur "Charley" Maxey
On May 21, 1932, nine days after the Lindbergh baby was found dead not far from the family’s New Jersey home, Normal resident Arthur Maxey was kidnapped in downtown Bloomington. About 9:40 p.m. that Saturday night three young men grabbed Maxey, an assistant manager at the downtown Montgomery Ward’s, as he was leaving the store to make a night deposit.

CHARLES ARTHUR MAXEY DIES IN ELMHURST
Services for Charles Arthur Maxey, 60, of Elmhurst, formerly of Decatur, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Pedersen Funeral Home in Elmhurst with burial in Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Maxey died Sunday morning in Elmhurst Hospital. Mr. Maxey moved from Decatur in 1933. He held a number of positions with the Montgomery Ward Co., including store manager in Decatur, Freeport and East St. Louis. He was later named advertising and promotional manager of the chain's New York office.
He was born in Atwood on Dec. 1, 1904, a son of Theodore and Sarah Maxey.
He married Ruth Bready on Dec. 19, 1926, in Decatur.
Charles Arthur Maxey
Charles Arthur Maxey, 61, of 17W220 Rodeck Lane, Bensenville, died Sunday, June 6, at Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst.
He was born in Atwood, Il., Dec 1, 1903 and had resided in Bensenville for 10 years. Mr. Maxey was a vice president of Montgomery Ward Co in Chicago for 23 years and had been the proprietor of Hesse Men's Store in Elmhurst for the last 13 years. He was a member of the Elmhurst Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to his wife, Ruth L , he leaves a son, Gerald A., his mother Sarah; a sister, Madge Mesnard of Effingham, IL,; two brothers, Walter of Orlando, Fla. and Kenneth of Alton, IL.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 9, at 1 p.m. at Pedersen-Ryburg Mortuary, 435 N. York St., Elmhurst, by the Rev. Dr. Robert 0. Williams.
Interment was at Mount Emblem Cemetery.
