The Attwell Bridge was named after the late Roelf Attwell (better known as Bo) and his wife Jill, to honour their considerable conservation input and influence, not only in the Garden, but in the greater Hangklip and Kleinmond areas.
This couple have owned property in Betty’s Bay since the 1930s and have always been keen environmental caretakers of this area. They watched the Garden grow from strength to strength and helped unstintingly with this growth in terms of their time as volunteers, as knowledgeable advisors and also financially.
The bridge was partially burned in the June 2010 fire (see photo) but has now been repaired
